Should crews adjust the EZPERDIEM per diem calculation if using TurboTax or TaxCut?

If a flight crewmember uses TurboTax or TaxCut to prepare their taxes, they do not need to make adjustments to the per diem calculation (i.e. M&IE expenses) generated by EZPerDiem.com. Software packages like TurboTax and TaxCut are designed to allow a person to enter numbers without making adjustments required on tax forms.

In other words, the total M&IE number generated by EZPerDiem.com is what gets entered into TurboTax, TaxCut, TaxAct, or whatever tax software package you choose. If you look at IRS Form 2106, you will see that this number does, indeed, get reduced, but those software packages handle that adjustment for you.

TurboTax and TaxCut do need to know what you were reimbursed in non-taxable per diem from your employer, however. This number should be on your W-2 Box 12, Code L. If it is not, consult your payroll department for your employer and find out what you were reimbursed in non-taxable per diem for the year.
